Some Other Place

In March of this year as the pandemic was becoming a reality, I knew I would need a creative outlet as filmmaking in any practical sense would be halted for a while.

Although I had dabbled in 35mm film photography over the past three years I had always been interested in making the jump to medium format. Additionally I was wanting to print some of my photographs in some form. Thus, I was drawn to developing a photo zine of both 35mm and medium format photography.

Naively, I assumed that I could capture enough images over the course of a month or so and move into printing from there. The reality was an 8 month process of some hard lessons learned and knowledge gained. With the exception of the film processing and actual Zine printing, I knew that I would be be tackling the layout as well as the photography itself.

The result is an exploration of where I currently reside, Sioux Falls, SD. Already a quiet town, the pandemic provided an opportunity to collect images in a seemingly deserted town. I was looking for shots that felt mundane, discarded and overlooked. Not as a means unto its own end, but rather to search for some kind of beauty or mystery in these ignored places.

You can buy them in my store for $16 per copy. It measures in at 8.25 x 5.25 inches and features 37 original photographs.
