Wasta & New Underwood, SD

Last month I ran out west to grab a quick pick up shot for my current feature film. I needed a single shot of I-90 looking west with the silhouette of the Black Hills looming in the background. So Dalton Coffey the film’s DP and I hopped in my car and took off. All day the sky was a thick dish water gray as we drove west. I desperately needed the sun for the shot to match my previous footage. I knew what overpass we needed to get the shot from and as we arrived the clouds parted and miraculously the sun emerged as we set up. Just as quickly as it appeared it disappeared as we packed the car back up.  Feeling borderline euphoric for pulling off the shot we immediately turned the car around and headed back home five hours away. Along the way we stopped in the tiny west river towns of Wasta and New Underwood and snapped a few photographs.
